Pra quem gosta de ciência e sabe se virar no inglês, o site Coursera é uma excelente fonte de conhecimento acessível (levando em conta também que você tenha acesso à internet banda larga).
Cada vez mais universidades consagradas oferecem aulas gratuitas dos mais variados assuntos através da internet. No Coursera há uma infinidade de cursos de muitas áreas, em várias línguas e níveis de conhecimento. Desde cursos extremamente introdutórios a alguns bem especializados.
Acho esse tipo de iniciativa bastante interessante, e parece que é uma tendência. Algumas universidades brasileiras já começaram a entrar na onda postando as aulas em canais de excelente qualidade no youtube (e isso será assunto para uma postagem futura).
Hoje o assunto é o Coursera. Nem todos os cursos estão disponíveis no presente momento, mas se o assunto é de interesse de um possível aluno, ele poderá se inscrever para receber atualizações e datas de início das aulas. Funciona assim:
Os que aparecem com um botão "Join for free" ou "View course record" são os cursos que já aconteceram ou os que estão acontecendo atualmente. Estes costumam ter as vídeo-aulas disponíveis para download, bem como as legendas e o texto corrido.
Os que aparecem com o botão "Add to watchlist" são os cursos que ainda acontecerão, provavelmente num futuro próximo. Ao clicá-lo você estará se inscrevendo para futuras notificações de início de aulas.
Algumas universidades oferecem a oportunidade do aluno receber um certificado oficial de participação. Geralmente esse certificado dependerá do seu desempenho em provas ("quizzes") feitas no próprio site e uma taxa para a emissão do documento. Não sei se todas cobram essas taxas, nem sei se os valores são fixos. Na única vez que pesquisei o valor era de U$100. Mas veja bem, isso é opcional. Os cursos são GRÁTIS. Só quem desejar receber o certificado é que paga a taxa.
Selecionei abaixo alguns cursos muito interessantes que podem complementar a formação de um astrônomo. Lógico que meu gosto pessoal e apreço por astrofísica estelar e astrobiologia pesaram nessas escolhas. Existem outros cursos de astronomia lá, basta procurar na caixa de pesquisa.
